Rooms will be assigned before the workshop, and we’ll take care of all arrangements. Every room at the Historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House is lovely and comfortable, providing a quiet, inspiring space to rest and reflect.

For those of you flying into New Mexico, there are 2 airports you can fly into:

• Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF) — This is about a 1.5 hours drive from the Mabel Dodge Luhan house.
• Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) — 3 hours drive from the Mabel Dodge Luhan house.
• Transportation: Car rental or shuttle recommended; shared rides can be coordinated among participants

The schedule for the 2027 workshop is as follows:

• Sunday evening, July 6, 5:00pm: Welcome reception and orientation
• Monday & Tuesday, July 5 and 6: Studio intensives with prompts, demos, and open exploration
• Wednesday, July 7: Field trip to Abiquiú and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and Studio
• Thursday & Friday, July 8 and 9: Studio intensives with prompts, demos, and open exploration
• Saturday morning, July 10, 11:30am: Closing circle and departures

Pre and Post Workshop Zoom Calls:

• Meet & Greet + Q&A to connect and prepare before arrival, time and date TBA.
• Two Group Supportive Sessions to share and discuss individual work, set intentions, and build community, time and date TBA.
• Pre-Workshop: Each participant received one private Supportive Session with Stacy prior to the start of the workshop.
• Post-Workshop: Each participant receives one private Supportive Session with Stacy to discuss their work and ideas for moving forward – individuals will be able to register post workshop.

Check in time at the Mabel Dodge Luhan house is 3pm. If you arrive prior to 3pm, you may stay in the lobby/waiting room while your room is being prepared. If you are going to be arriving after 8pm please notify the front desk (you can reach them at julianna@mabeldodgeluhan.com) as soon as possible so that they can leave an envelope with your name on it with a key and map to your room on the front door main entrance. Stacy and her assistant Ferris will also be there to help with the arrival process.

Check out time at the Mabel Dodge Luhan house is 10:30am. If you need to wait in the lobby after the 10:30am check out time, that is acceptable, so long as you are completely checked out of your room.

A Supportive Session is a focused, personal conversation with Stacy designed to help you grow in your work and process. These can include feedback on your artwork, discussions about creative direction, mindset, or process, or anything you feel would best support your practice.

Before the workshop, there will be a Group Supportive Session (date TBA) where participants can share work, discuss intentions, and start building community.

After the workshop, you’ll receive a link to schedule your private one-on-one Supportive Session with Stacy at your convenience. This post-class session gives you time to reflect, ask questions, and continue the momentum from the week

This experience is for artists who are curious, open-minded, and ready to explore their own questions and ideas. You may arrive with a subject in mind, a question you want to pursue, or simply a curiosity you want to follow. Through preparation, conversation, making, and individual support, you’ll have the opportunity to go deeper into your subject while staying open to the unexpected connections and possibilities that emerge along the way.

No. While both experiences encourage curiosity and exploration, they have different focuses. Beyond Likeness centers on exploring and experimenting with the portrait. Sourcing the Subject is a deeper, more open-ended exploration of how you find and develop the subject you want to pursue.

This workshop is part workshop, part supported residency. There is no prescribed subject matter or set of techniques to learn. Instead, you’ll have the time, space, conversation, and individual support to explore an idea or inquiry that is meaningful to you, establish parameters for your work, and remain open to what emerges through the process.

• Please note that the Mabel Dodge Luhan House is a historic property with stairs, uneven floors, and some dirt pathways throughout the grounds. Due to its age and layout, it is not fully accessible and requires guests to be able to move about independently without assistance. Unfortunately, the property is not suitable for individuals with mobility limitations
• Comfortable shoes are a must for safely navigating the property.
• Please pack as lightly as possible to ensure your ability to manage your own suitcase(s). If you wish to ship luggage ahead of your arrival, please reach out to Mabel Dodge Luhan house at julianna@mabeldodgeluhan.com.
• In keeping with the feel of Mabel’s era, there are no telephones, televisions, internet or alarm clocks in the guest rooms. A telephone and internet access are available in the common area of the Big House.
• Mabel Dodge Luhan House is not air-conditioned, but windows can be opened and fans are available.
• Taos is at an altitude of approximately 7,000 feet above sea level. Please contact your doctor before your arrival if you have any chronic health issues. You will need to drink plenty of water during your stay in order to prevent dehydration. Please ask your participants to bring a refillable water bottle that can be filled from the sinks.
• Mabel Dodge Luhan House is located at the edge of Taos Pueblo. This is sovereign land and trespassing could result in your arrest.
• Mabel Dodge Luhan House does their best to control for pests, but the location and the change of seasons can sometimes bring them indoors. If you have an unwanted visitor, contact the receptionist.
• Due to the high risk of fires in this area, there are limitations on the use of the fireplace in the living room. If you would like to use the living room fireplace, please check with the receptionist first. Fires are not allowed in guest rooms.

This workshop has a total of 12 spots available. Stacy and her assisstant will also be attending, which makes for a total of 14 people at the workshop.

The workshop registration fee does not cover any travel expenses, meaning transportation to and from the workshop. As such, workshop attendees are expected to make their own travel arrangements. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily, and four dinners are included as well. Two evenings will be open for you to explore the culinary life of Taos at your own pace.

We’ll be working in mixed media with water-based materials. Each artist will decide how they want to work, what medium, size, and surface feels most right for them. You’re welcome to bring paper, wood panels, or other substrates that suit your process.

Please note: because the studio is in a historic adobe building, there is no wall space for hanging work. All creating will be done on tabletops, so it’s recommended that you do not work larger than 24″x36″.

We’ll review materials and setup details during our two Zoom meetings prior to the workshop, so you’ll have plenty of time to prepare and personalize your supplies.

With regards to food allergies, we will do our best to acoommodate you. After registering we will ask you to send us any food allergies you may have.

Because this is an intimate, immersive workshop experience, our time at Mabel Dodge Luhan House is reserved exclusively for registered workshop participants. Partners, spouses, and other guests are not able to stay with or join participants during the week unless they are also registered and actively participating in the workshop. We have reserved a specific number of spaces at Mabel Dodge for our group, and each of those spaces is dedicated to someone taking part in the workshop.

Workshop deposits and balance payments are non-refundable. If we are able to fill your space with another qualified participant, we will issue a refund, less a $500 non-refundable processing fee. We will make every effort to fill your space, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.

Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is highly recommended to protect your investment in the event you are unable to attend.

The instructor reserves the right to cancel or postpone the retreat at least 30 days prior to the event if minimum enrollment is not met. In this case, all participants will receive a full refund.

The instructor also reserves the right to cancel or postpone the retreat due to unforeseen circumstances, emergencies, illness, or other circumstances beyond the instructor’s reasonable control. In the event of an instructor-initiated cancellation, participants will receive a full refund of payments made toward the retreat.
