Join us for Beyond Likeness: Mixed-Media Portraiture, my only live class of 2025! Together, we’ll gather in beautiful Santa Fe with an intimate group to embark on a transformative journey into experimental portraiture.
This workshop invites you to reimagine the human face through expressive, mixed-media techniques, focusing on experimental portraiture. Break away from traditional approaches and explore new dimensions of artistic representation in a supportive studio environment that encourages creativity, risk-taking, and discovery.
In this one-of-a-kind class, we’ll dive deep into prompts and exercises designed to challenge your perception of portraiture. Using a variety of mixed-media techniques, including acrylic painting, collage, and drawing, we’ll deconstruct and reconstruct the face, not to replicate a likeness but to express the soul and story behind it.

WHERE DOES THE WOKSHOP TAKE PLACE?
The Beyond Likeness workshop will be held at the Santa Fe Artist Getaway, a premiere creative hub that has served as the gem of South West artisitc expression since its doors opened in 2019.
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
The Beyond Likeness workshop is geared towards the intermediate to advanced artist, and more specifically for those who are pursuing exploratory portraiture in their practice and are interested in expanding their creative voice.
WHAT ARE THE DATES AND TIMES OF THE WORKSHOP?
The Beyond Likeness workshop takes place from October 20th – 24th, 2025, from 9:30am to 4:30pm, with a break for lunch in the middle of the day.

WHAT IS COVERED IN THE BEYOND LIKENESS: MIXED-MEDIA PORTRAITURE WORKSHOP?
In this innovative art class, we will delve into various prompts and exercises designed to push the boundaries of how we perceive and portray the human face. Unlike traditional portrait drawing/painting classes, “Beyond Likeness” focuses on deconstructing the face and reconstructing it through layers of mixed media, collage, drawing, and painting. Our goal is not to capture the likeness of a particular face but to express the essence and emotions behind the face.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SIGN UP?
After signing up for the Beyond Likeness: Mixed-Media Portraiture workshop, you will be sent the following that will include the following:
- A receipt for your purchase.
- A syllabus – this will contain a brief explanation of the workshop, as well as what materials you’ll need. Remember, you don’t need to break the bank and buy all of these supplies! You likely have art supplies that you already like – please feel free to use those.

As we get closer to the start of the workshop, we will be reaching out to you via email, just to make sure that you are ready for the start of the workshop on October 20th!

The Beyond Likeness: Mixed-Media Portraiture workshop is made up of 5 classes, each of which goes from 9:30am to 4:30pm, with lunch taking place from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
The 4 sessions take place on the following dates:

WHERE IS THE WORKSHOP HELD?
The Beyond Likeness: Mixed-Media Portraiture workshop will be held at the beautiful Santa Fe Artist Getaway, located just 20 minutes outside of the stunning city of Santa Fe! Nestled among the soft rolling hills and chapparal of New Mexico, the Santa Fe Artist Getaway has been an oasis of art making since it open its doors in 2019.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY THE REGISTRATION FEE? WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
The workshop registration fee does not cover any lodging or travel expenses – this includes transportation to and from the workshop. Workshop attendees are expected to make their own travel and lodging arrangements. Upon registration, students will be sent a syllabus listing materials they are responsible for bringing, as well as the materials that Stacy will be providing.
The workshop is approximately 8 miles out of town from downtown Santa Fe. You will need to rent a car, use Lyft or Uber, or carpool with other participants. For your convenience, here is the address of the workshop:

For those of you flying into New Mexico, the airport is Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF). You also fly into Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) – please note that ABQ is about an hour away from Santa Fe.
Lodging Recommendations will depend on your budget. If you opt to share your information we can share participants’ contact so you may coordinate lodging and transportation.

IS ANY FOOD OR DRINK PROVIDED THROUGHOUT THE WORKSHOP? WHAT IF I HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES?
Coffee and tea will be provided throuhgout the day. A catered lunch will be provided each day as well, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
With regards to food allergies, we will do our best to acoommodate you. After registering we will ask you to send us any food allergies you may have.
WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND THE WORKSHOP AND MISS IT?
The registration fee for this workshop is non-refundable, but if you are unable to attend the workshop, your resigration fee can be used as a credit for a future Stacy Phillips workshop.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WORKSHOP IS CANCELLED?
In the unlikely event that the workshop as a whole is cancelled, all participants will be issued a refund.
WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?
The registration fee for this workshop is non-refundable. It is for this reason that we strongly recommend that you purchase trip insurance.
